Winding streets, uneven stairways,
Blurry street lamps, silent highways.
After a headache, a body ache and a told you so speech,
I now know the threshold I'm never gonna breach.

On the first day of school after vacations - a parent's perspective
Today, they go back to school after a long break,
Readied for tears and tantrums, I prod them awake
Carefully I talk to them, not mentioning the 'S' word
Break it to them slowly, a strategy I've often heard
Cleverly I please them with their favorite game
Is now the right time to drop the dreaded name?
"Speed up, Dad" the two quip, quite curtly,
"We'll be late for school if we don't leave shortly"
Readied for tears and tantrums, I prod them awake
Carefully I talk to them, not mentioning the 'S' word
Break it to them slowly, a strategy I've often heard
Cleverly I please them with their favorite game
Is now the right time to drop the dreaded name?
"Speed up, Dad" the two quip, quite curtly,
"We'll be late for school if we don't leave shortly"
